Cooking...

Okay, so I have one of those 30-minute of less cookbooks, actually I have two of them. The recipe I made yesterday took almost an hour and I didn't have any interruptions. The recipe I was planning to make today, (I guess I didn't read the fine print) involves first grilling the pork chops then taking them off the grill, putting them in a pan in the oven, then putting apples on the grill. I don't know about you, but I can't be in two places at once and watch the boys. My grill is outside, my stove is inside. You would think that a 30-minute or less cookbook would make things easy. I have another "easy-meal" cookbook and one of the recipes involves 23 ingredients and a food-processor (is that easy???). HMMMMM ...not cooking today.

I HATE TO COOK!!!! And I hate all recipe books. And why? Well, I blame William Sonoma. My grandmother did all the cooking at my house, and I lived at home until I married at 22. At my shower, every cookbook I received was a William Sonoma cookbook, and every recipe in that cookbook required some esoteric piece of kitchen equipment that I don't even believe chefs own. So there I was, in this two-bedroom Manhattan apartment with a kitchen the size of my current bedroom closet, trying to grate fresh ginger and zest a lemon. So, yeah, I ran out and bought some of those 30 minute cookbooks, only to find they required ingredients that I'd never even heard of. When I cook, it's Betty Crocker all the way, baby. It's fast, it's easy, it's basic. I need basic. I like basic--as much as I like anything related to cooking, which is very, very little.

Why does my husband stay married to me? I like cleaning, I like laundry, I like him, and I like the baby. He forgives the cooking, thank God, because if the way to his heart was through his stomach, I would have gotten stuck somewhere in the lungs.

Very funny!

Yeah, I have those betty crocker cookbooks too. My problem is I like all the interesting foods and find it frustrating that I can't catch a break to cook them! I don't like laundry or cleaning, I like cooking or at least I used to. ahhhh! I still cook for the holidays and like that.
